Enjoy The Simple Things In Life

Made another page in my Art Journal.  It's called Enjoy The Simple Things In Life.  Life can be so complicated - and sometimes I just need to look for the simple things in life.
The background is made using two colors of paint, which I spread out over the page using an old credit card. The girl is stamped on using a Julie Nutting stamp called Chiara. I colored her hair, dress and shoes in with distressed ink markers.  I stamped on the butterfly, heart and swirly design using sponge stamps.  I hand drew on the flower, heart, tree and birds.  I then also wrote on the Enjoy The Simple Things In Life, drawing a square around here word.   I wanted to make the Enjoy word stand out the most, so I used a purple Gelatos stick on that.

Herringbone Technique

The challenge this week at  CCEE Stampers is a technique - Herringbone.  They provided a tutorial link from the Splitcoast Stampers Tutorial Section, which was really helpful and easy to follow.   I have never done this technique before.   I enjoyed doing it...and will probably do it again.   I used four different patterns of paper.     I then used CTMH stamp set called Dreamer for the girl and the dream.  I cut out the girl and dream and attached them both with 3D foam squares.

We are the clay, You are the potter

Made this card using Our Daily Bread Designs stamp set You Are The Potter.  I got this set a while ago...and now it is no longer available.  Just the single Pottery stamp is available.   I also used ODBD's Christian Faith Paper Collection & Blooming Garden Paper Collection.
The purple base of my card is paper from the Christian Faith Collection - and the smaller yellow paper is from the Blooming Garden Collection.   I stamped on the pottery and the scripture using brown ink onto white cardstock.   I then distressed all the edges of both pieces.   The thinner middle strip and the four strips at the bottom are all burlap.

Make The Most Out Of Your Journey In Life

I made this mixed media canvas using Gesso, Stencils, stamps, stickers, marker, spray paints and paint daubers.
The girl stamp is from Julie Nutting...and it's called Chiara.
The stencils are from the Tim Holtz Collection.
I used a heavy gesso and the stencils, filling in the stencils with the gesso...and then let it dry completely.   Not sure if you can tell, but the print is raised off the canvas.
I added some stars and hearts stickers.  Then spray painted it with several different colors.
I hand wrote the make the most out of your journey in life with a black marker.
After I lifted the stencils off...the two designs reminded me of feet, that gave me the inspiration for the rest of it.

Have A Great Year

My kids are long out of school...but I have a friend who is a Kindergarten teacher, and I wanted to make her a card for her first day back to teaching.
The base of my card is chalkboard cardstock.  I hand wrote the Have A Great Year! using a white chalk marker.  Everything else are 3D stickers.

In the craziness of life

Made a couple of more pages in my Art Journal.
I used watercolor paint with several colors to paint on lines and squiggles going in every which way to represent how crazy life can be.   We need to take time to be still.  We need to spend time with the Lord.

Art Journaling (Beginning)

I have been interested in Art Journaling for quite some time now...but have never done it.
Until now.   This is my first piece.
I bought a small artbook...5.5 by 8.5 in size.
I used Ranger Distress Paint Daubers in yellow, red, blue & pink.
I didn't really know what to do - so I just started out by making some lines and circles.  I then drew a heart and Cross, and then wrote things that are important to me...and things that I like.
This is going to be the cover page.

I know it's pretty plain - but I like it :-)

Everything was colored in with Promarkers.   The flip flops are cut out from a ODBD's Die Cut.

Triplets

I have a friend who's daughter is having girl triplets. I was kind of stumped on what kind of a card to make for her...until I went to our County Fair this week and saw the chickens.  I bought this pre-colored set from Diane's Daydream Designs called Country Chicks.   The nesting chicken and the three eggs are from this set.   The hearts and the little baby chick down in the corner are stickers.   I hand wrote the Congratulations sentiment on white cardstock, sponging green ink around all the edges.   I also sponged on green ink around all the edges of the card.

The challenge at CCEE Stampers this week is County Fair and 4-H.....Make a card having some object or an animal that you would find at the fair.  And for an extra use some green on the card as that is the color for 4-H.

Sand Dollar & Flip Flops

Made this card using Our Daily Bread Designs stamp set Ocean Treasures & Flip Flops Die.
I sponged the card with blue and tan to represent the sky and sand - adding red netting.
I also used Spellbinders die Blossom Tags & Accents.  I sponged the die frame with brown and then sanded it with sandpaper to give it a sandy look. I then stamped on the sand dollar in white onto it. I stamped the saying on with a brown ink.  I made the flip flops out of the same tan color, using a darker brown for the thongs part...and attached them to the netting.

I made this for the ODBD's sketch challenge....here is their sketch:

Sewing Mends Everything!

Made this card using this kit from Diane's Daydream Designs called Life Is Sew Sweet - Sewing Machine Set.
As soon as I saw this set I knew I had to get it...being the sewer that I am.
I used the pre-colored sewing machine, which I fussy cut out and attached with 3D foam dots.  The Sewing Mends Everything is printed on blue cardstock, which I distressed the edges and sponged on gray ink...also attached to my card with 3D foam dots.   I added a little strip of a tape measure, and a couple of straight pins.  The cute background paper is also from the kit.

The challenge this week at CCEE Stampers is Song Inspiration...make a card that is related to a song title.     My song inspired card is from the 1947 movie The Perils of Pauline called The Sewing Machine.

Here are the words to the song:
THE SEWING MACHINE
From the film "The Perils Of Pauline" (1947)
(Frank Loesser)

Betty Hutton (with Joe Lilley & His Orch.) - 1947

Ohhh, the sewing machine, the sewing machine
A girl's best friend
If I didn't having my sewing machine
I'd a-come to no good end
But a bobbin a bobbin and peddle a peddle
And wheel the wheel by day
So by night I feel so weary that I never get out to play

Ohhh, the sewing machine, the sewing machine
A helping hand
If I didn't have my sewing machine
I'd drink to beat the band
But a bobbin a bobbin and peddle a peddle
As busy as a bug
So by night I feel so weary that I can hardly lift a mug

Ohhh, the sewing machine-ah, the sewing machine-ah
A friend in need
If I didn't have my sewing machine
A wicked life I'd lead
But a bobbin a bobbin and peddle a peddle
And dream about romance
So by night I feel so weary that I never get out to dance

Ohhh, the sewing machine, the sewing machine
A pal so dear
If I didn't have my sewing machine
I'd try a stage career
But a bobbin a bobbin and peddle a peddle
Till amateur night comes by
But by then I feel so weary that I haven't the strength to try
Aye-aye-aye-aye, aye-aye-aye-aye

Ohhh-ohhh, the sewing machine-ah, the sewing machine
Me pride and joy
If I didn't have me sewing machine
I'd a-married James McCoy
But a bobbin a bobbin and peddle a peddle
And that's the end of Jim
'Cause by night I get so weary I don't even look good to him

Ohhh, have I got a boss, he looks like a hoss
His name's Joe Gurt
If he didn't own the sewing machine
I'd a kicked him where it hurts
While a bobbin a bobbin and peddle a peddle
He keeps his eyes on me
Why I never never have kicked still remains a mystery

Ohhh, I thread the needle and fix the shuttle
And put in the cloth and pull up the lever
And bobbin a bobbin and peddle a peddle
And wheel the wheel all day
Ohhh, the sewing machine, the sewing machine
The sewing machine, the sewing machine
Is a girl's best friend
This is the end
